First and foremost let me remind my Gen X self that Hello Kitty is not a cat but a girl as based on the pronouncement of her creator, Sanrio.

Theme runs based on popular cartoon and comics characters are envogue nowadays. Kiddos and parents alike throve to these fun runs like fireflies to light. They simply cannot resist not showing their “true colors” and unconditional love to these characters that have shaped and taken a huge part of their childhood either at present for the kids or some decades ago for the mommies and daddies.

Hello Kitty Manila Run 2017 was held for the very first time to a resounding success last October 21, 2017 at the SM By The Bay Area by Ten:22 Business Solutions, the local affiliate of Tokyo Gets Co., Ltd.   Several waves of 5K runners mostly in full Hello Kitty regalia ran, walked, sauntered, took selfies and groufies, and engaged other iconic cartoon character fans from the start to the finish line. Numbering more than 10,000 strong, participants of all ages, sizes, sexes, and affiliations trooped the starting line and filled the activity area and the streets in splashes of color pink, tutus, and anything and everything Hello Kitty accessories showing the world how Manila expresses the fun run’s “Link Love Together” concept to the extreme.

A little bit of this character-based fun run – the first Hello Kitty Fun Run was held in Bangkok in February 2016. Afterwards, it was also brought by Tokyo Gets to many other Asian countries such as Singapore, China, Indonesia and Vietnam. Throughout the event, the concept “Link Love Together” was widely adopted from the race kits, to decorations, merchandise, to food and beverages, etc.

The activity area including the center stage features numerous fun-filled post-race activities and entertainment numbers that engaged the finishers as they scour the area for several Hello Kitty memorabilia and merchandises. Aside from the humongous Hello Kitty balloon, photo booths and themed areas where individuals and groups took some souvenir pictures, there was this Hello Kitty Food and Beverage mobile café catering to a very long line of finishers needing some caffeine jolt and some well-deserved sweets. Indeed, Hello Kitty Run Manila defined what a memorable “fun run” should be.

Excitement stirred the air right from the very start of the first wave at around 5:30 am till the last wave at around 7 am when it is already bright albeit cloudy.

Naturally, one of the highlights and most anticipated part of the event is the appearance of no less than Hello Kitty herself!  So selfie galore it is!

Bonding and fun moments with friends

Sharing memorable experiences running with family
