The scourge of cancer to those afflicted by this dreaded disease and to their family and friends is unimaginable. It is not something we wish for anybody, more so our loved ones, to suffer from. Yet, it is not something we can get rid of in our lives no matter how hard we try. The sad reality remains that it is of grave certainty that in our lifetime, we know, will know, or had known someone dear to us that is suffering, had suffered or will suffer from it. .And for the moment that we find ourselves free from its deathly clutches, we should kneel down in gratitude that we and our loved ones are spared from it. Or why not support a project that advocates helping educate and raise funds for cancer victims without the resources to avail of proper medical attention?

The Philippine Society of General Surgeon Inc. will once again be organizing The Pink Run 2016 for the sixth year as part of its advocacy to help breast cancer patients in the country, most of whom are women dear to us – mother, sister, wife, relative, friend. The proceeds will go to Stage Zero by Project Pink that tackles this advocacy among others that include psychological and emotional support to both the patient and the caregiver, information dissemination, and financial support to those without financial capacity. It is in this latter aspect that your hard-earned registration fee will find its optimal “mileage” aside from the health benefits of running and the fun of being in a race environment. Now that’s what I call running with a purpose!

By the way, here is the very inspiring story I copy pasted on how Project Pink came into being:

One thought …..Five commitments, equals a dream realized.

There are many things that can result from a single but meaningful thought. In this case, it was one that lingered in the mind of a breast cancer survivor- the thought of reaching out to others who were experiencing the same struggles, questionings, uncertainties as she. This one thought was shared to her doctor friend who owned the same passion, to help cancer patients and their families through their journey. Both were inspired to do the same, and so the story unfolds. The same survivor then shared the idea with two other ladies in her bible study group who were breast cancer survivors themselves and the wonderful serendipity of a common “calling” fell into place. The story then goes on that the three breast cancer survivors and the doctor met-put their heads and hearts together to pray and plan. Soon after, they were led to another cancer survivor friend, likewise and equally committed to the cause. They all had breakfast, and friendships were quickly formed and the commitment to start a support group took seed and they called themselves “PROJECT PINK”.

A very cozy blogger launch was held recently at the Red Kitchen + Bar located at Bldg.D-3 River Park Supermall, Filinvest City, Alabang. The organizer of the event, RG Events, one of the leading running race organizers in the country headed by Ivan Bernard, was generous enough to invite me and my fellow Fabulous Running Divas Lyana, Ysa, Marc and Blue to the launch. Not that we needed the prodding, but expect our team to throw our full support to this kind of race that has deeper purpose and the one that is closest to our heart at that, well, literally and figuratively. We will join this race in all our fabulous pink splendor‼!!
