For its third year of conquering the streets of the metro, BGC Cycle Philippines rolled out with a press launch recently at the Ascott Hotel BGC. Among the panel of speakers is Sunrise Events Inc. owner Fred Uytengsu, Chris Robb, CEO of Spectrum Worldwide, Cycle Asia Ambassador and legendary sprinter Robbie McEwen’, Manuel Blas II of the Fort Bonifacio Development Corp., and Ascott’s Norman Lim. They presented what is going to be a two day of biking action around the BGC area and out towards the major thoroughfares of Buendia and Roxas Boulevard. Out of BGC Cycle and Alaska Cycle Philippines, only the APEC ceremony can do that!
In this two-day cycling festivities (November 21 and 22) with the main activity hub located at 30th Street and 9th Avenue, BGC, an expected 2,000 strong bike enthusiasts will invade the road of the metro. They will be either riding alongside Robbie in the Ride with Robbie category, the 20K Community and Foldies Community Rides, or the 40K Challenge ride. These races are happening on Sunday, November 22.
All of Saturday is dedicated to the younger participants with their own category of fun biking around the secured BGC area. There is the 30-minute Junior Challenge ride followed by the Kid’s Ride and the Tricycle Ride for those as young as two! Naturally, their parents and guardians are in the thick of their little tots’ competition running alongside their young athletes.
“We at Sunrise Events, Inc. are very proud to be staging the BGC Cycle Asia Philippines for the third time this year. It is another one of the world-class sports event that we have in our yearly calendar and I am as usual glad to welcome back Spectrum Worldwide and BGC as our major partners for this event. Cycling as a sport and fitness activity has been growing tremendously in the country and we at Sunrise Events look forward to bringing a fun and awesome safe ride along the roads of Metro Manila to the cyclists, young and old alike.” said Mr. Uytensu
“You see several people getting engaged and getting involved and all the smiling faces….especially afterwards where everyone is proud of what they have achieved. I see the joy that cycling can bring to people.” Robbie enthuses about why he loves coming year after year to support BGC Cycle Philippines.
Indeed, the cycling community in the country is ever growing in number and diversity that save for congested metro streets; the atmosphere is very conducive to the development of this two-wheeled interest in the country. Though we are still a long way as compared to Singapore that, as Chris revealed, its government provided cyclist of almost 100K of bike lanes that links the entire city thereby encouraging employees to bike to work, the pervading health revolution in all forms physical activity is providing a fuel for its further development.
Fortunately for Filipinos, Cycle Asia organized by Spectrum Worldwide, is providing this avenue around the region where cyclist can indulge in a day of lording over urban streets. BGC Cycle Philippines, the local rendition, will definitely perform a major role into the further development and fueling interest of Philippine cycling for years and years to come!
