Integrity, what is it? Can I eat it? Can I sell it? Well maybe for during these times when many people see corruption as something cool, something to aspire for when running for public office, integrity can be filling. It even has a monetary value albeit dirt-cheap. Despite this, the Integrity Initiative spearheaded by the Makati Business Club, the European Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (ECCP), the American Chamber of Commerce of the Philippines (AMCHAM), the Management Association of the Philippines (MAP), and Financial Executives of the Philippines (Finex) will not turn the other cheek. In fact, they have been at this fight since the inception of this project in 2009 where they aim “to build a culture of integrity” in the country. A tall order it is indeed given the fact that a thing of culture is something that is ingrained deep in our political and governmental system. It will take years and year of undoing. But to give up, fortunately, is not in their agenda.

For its third year (the first and second in 2011 and 2012), the ECCP will once again rehash their Run for Integrity dubbed “I Run for Integrity: I am Part of the Solution.” They will “take to the streets” once again their fight against corruption and unethical business practices in the hopes of the youth and the physically active member of the society to “act with and uphold the value of integrity”. Running for health reasons and for the sheer fun of it is great, but what purposeful it will become if during the action of building a strong body, you are also building a strong and honorable personality. Let our runs be purposeful and meaningful from now on and we will become no mere ordinary runners but fabulous runners.
