Philippine Deposit Insurance Corporation turned over almost P2M to Gawad Kalinga as a result of last year’s fund-raising race Takbo 1 for the victims of typhoon Yolanda.  As a result, several weather-proof houses were built at Lawaan, Eastern Samar providing our depressed brothers and sisters a secure and decent abode to live in. This year, they expect the same support from the running community in order to finish what they have started.  Moreover, they will strive to provide all the needed assistance not only for shelter needs but also for livelihood, education and empowerment of the residents.

Takbo 2 – Takbo sa Kalusugan Para sa Kalikasan will likewise see the involvement of Miss Earth Foundation with several environmental projects in line.  Jamie Harrell, Miss Earth Philippines 2014, even graced the media launch and spoke about how she believes that beauty should be more than skin deep.  As a track and field athlete during her schooling days, she regretted that a devastating accident put an end to her running days.  However, she promised to join the lower distances together with some candidates if her schedule permits on race day.
