Presenter’s Overview

 

The Local Government of Marikina under the leadership of Mayor Del Guzman and the Rotary Club of Marikina are inviting runners and fitness buffs to register and join in this running event.  The goal of this race, a third edition, is to gather fund for the Marikina Watershed Green Foundation in order to continue with the tree planting, development and caring for the watershed which serves as a first line of defense of  Marikina against flood waters coming from the Sierra Madre mountains.

Currently, tree planting is ongoing in the 20 hectare portion of the Marikina Watershed in Sitio Kayrupa, Barangay San Rafael, Rodriguez, Rizal.  More or less 7,000 seeds of different tree varieties like Dao, Narra, Molave, and others are being planted.  Meanwhile, the 200 hectare land of the watershed that was apportioned by the Department of Environment and Natural Resources was already planted with more or less 7,000 seeds of Robusta coffee and around 950 seeds of other tree varieties.  As of this time, there are more or less 100,000 saplings of Robusta coffee that need to be planted.
