Cheapangga Outlook

There are challenging trail and road races where the elevation and profile of the route require a more prudent and smart approach and there are location races where one can not only run but marvel at the picturesque sights and interesting landmarks at the same time.  Corregidor International Half Marathon and Corregidor Marathon promise both.  These are what make them among the more sought after marque races in the country.  A must run for all who deem themselves “true” and “hardcore” runners.

This year’s edition come with a full marathon version making the event occur in a span of 2 days (January 11,  a Saturday for the 42K and January 12,  Sunday for the International half marathon).  The  3K Thrill and 5K Blitz categories are likewise included in the first Corregidor Marathon (CM) day and a 10K category accompanies the Corregidor International Half Marathon (CIHM) the following day.

The Race Worth Reconquering and Immortalizing Ones Run

The theme for this event revolves around the catch phrase “Hard to Get” which evokes what conquering this race is all about – hard but worth getting into.  And to those who have done so previously and are privy to the secret that this race holds, “Reconquering” is the apt battle cry.  For the marathoners,  they will “Immortalize their Run” not only with the prestige of conquering what is thought to be the most difficult course to tame but with an accompanying medal and trophy where their names and corresponding race positions will be etched on for years to treasure and brag about.

Qualifying Time Requirement

Corregidor Island being the rocky island that it is poses a great challenge given its topographical features and requires much from runners than regular road races .  It is for this reason that certain qualifying times were set for one to be considered in this race.  The 21K route itself runs in an 8 formation throughout its highly undulating and diverse terrain.  The 42K route runs double this 8 shaped hard core route thus the symbolic 88 to represent the distance.  This number is also the total marathon slot for CM 2013.  Though no cut off times were set, the fact that ferry service closes after its last trip at 230 necessitates one to finish before this time which is actually ample emough by the slowest of runner’s standards.

Slot Allocation

The very drawback given the size of this military citadel during World War 2 is its size and certain environmental considerations making it accomodate only a certain number of people at a time (800 at most).  Therefore, all categories have limited number of slots for the few who will be able to register on time.

Here are the total number of slots allotted per race category:

CIHM
10K = 200
21K = 300
Non-participants = 100
Total = 600

There will be 100 wild card slots to be given to alumni racers with no qualifying time requirement.

CM
3K  = 150
5K  = 150
42K= 88
Non-participants = 200
Total = 588

The dynamic team under the banner of two prominent running coach and enthusiast Edward Kho and Atty. Raymund Martellino once again promise to deliver what is regarded as one of the most sought after local races.  In our country of multiple weekly races,  being unique route wise and high standard in race falicitation will make the race stand out from among the lot.  Time after time Corregidor Half Marathon had been proving to bring to the table both parameters.  This is after all the only race I can think of that each participant would not feel like another bib number but like a vip in every step of the way.  Experience this race and you will know what I am talking about. As the popular running host Sir Boy Ramos would relate,  there is this well guarded secret among CIHM alumni that is not to be talked about but experienced first hand.
