Not once, not twice but four times! Feeling Susan Roces? Well not really. This was just a statement of fact and not emotions of hatred or resentment at being duped for as many times. I am referring to the number of times one has to run in the Run United events at the maximum distance offered per installment in order to be included in the yearly awards ceremony. Though I was not successful in doing so, being a fabulous running diva entitled me to an invitation to this event. Naturally, I came with two of my fab friends, Red Ginger and Ivan plus Blue Zapanta who is the only real awardee.
This year was exceptionally special in a way that unlike last year, you need to complete four Run United races including the ultimate and very first RUPM (Run United Pilipinas Marathon). This rendered the occasion very important for most that even a friend of mine, Theresa Andres, boarded a flight straight from her home province on the very day itself just to attend then go back home right after to continue with her disrupted vacation. I would never ever imagine a very tomboyish and “mamaw” runner in the person of Cecil “Kilat” of the Philippine Navy to transform into a gorgeous lady in high platform shoes, face fully made up and with a little black dress showing her well-toned legs to boot! The rest of the Soleus women team (Angie, Pam, Roselle) naturally won’t be out done. They are all in a manifestation of everything fab and beautiful including the very much pregnant Angie who looks equally radiant and dashing despite the obvious bump.
The theme for this year Run United Awards Ceremony is equally special – the Mardi Gras! A portion of the SMX halls was transformed into a festive locale as a number of proud runners showed up in creative masks and some ostentatious accessories. Even the men are not to be outdone! Two running friends, Saul and Julius came in identical suits and masks! Jackie Gutierrez and Rose Marie are like the belle of the ball in their very simple yet elegant cocktail dresses. It was nice to see a friend whom I have not seen for the longest time (well a month is already equivalent to light years in the running community), Astroboy Dexter, looking healthy and dashing himself. The night though belonged to Dra. Joyce Reyes who took home the “Star of the Night” award in her golden vibrant ensemble of headdress, mask and dress. Our fabulousity must have rubbed on to her being seated just a seat in front of us! Joke!
The awardees and guests were treated to a sumptuous meal and extravagant celebration of led light dancers, salsa dancers and many more! Add to this are the wondrous hosting led by Sir Boy who kept the pace moving despite some awardees not springy enough to approach the stage as their names are called. It is great, likewise, that RunRio and the Unilab Active Health thought of giving out dog tags like that used by the military in quality and finish instead of medals which can only be displayed at home and not with the proud awardee himself/herself at all times! A special citation goes out to the inimitable and tireless blogger/super mom Vima Mendoza aka Kulit Runner who won the well-deserved blogger of the year award.
Mardi Gras and the Fabulous Running Divas have once again combined forces in this very special Run United Awarding Ceremony that the occasion came out not only unique but very much astounding in all aspects worthy of the importance it has to the proud runners. I cannot for the heart of me describe the fun we have had the entire afternoon. Thus I would let the pictures speak for themselves!
