Around the 3rd week of January of last year, I was lucky enough to have an opportunity to run in an out-of-town race which is accessible in a matter of four (4) hours by public transport. The generosity of an angel of a friend who provided me and a group of running friends with lodging accommodations for free made running in the scenic and arboreous Subic a reality. Being ultra cheap and in a very tight budget, I am not fond of, neither do I entertain thoughts of, provincial races most especially those that require air or water transport. Subic International Marathon though is a great race outside of the polluted and crowded metro to enjoy together with family and friends not only of its proximity but of the beautiful rustic route that takes the runners through highly forested areas where monkeys can be sighted roaming freely and bats flying in multitude. So with lodging fees slashed off the budget, I took the plunge and had the most wonderful running experience that will last a lifetime.
Come last week of January next year (which is but a matter of weeks to go), I will never miss the 4th staging of SUBIC INTERNATIONAL MARATHON which, this time around, I will bring my Fabulous Running Divas friends with me to pay forward (though they will shoulder their own lodging expenses) that which a generous friend did to me last year. Sharing something worth experiencing with family and friends is a worthwhile thing to indulge in this lifetime.

Subic International Marathon exists to advocate and initiate holistic development in the Filipino Society, cultivating a culture of physical health, productivity and patriotism, and bringing this model to the global community as its contribution to a peaceful environment for the youth of tomorrow.
It is Subic International Marathon’s vision to be the world class Philippine marathon that will gather all full marathoners from all over the world much like the New York marathon.
The Subic International Marathon (SIM) is now working in partnership with the CORPS Movement Foundation. SIM and CORPS Movement Foundation have been providing community development programs in various places in Metro Manila and in different regions in the Philippines since 1992.
Transforming communities and societies require social contexts. Hundreds of volunteers from the faith-based group of the CORPS Movement Foundation are deeply involved in creating God-centred, service-oriented, and family-based communities. The CORPS Movement Foundation offers different programs such as: Anti-Drug Campaigns, Values Enhancement Program, Health and Wellness Advocacies, Workshops on Strengthening Family Relationships, among others. These programs have dramatically impacted and significantly contributed to the inculcation of values and virtues amongst children and youth, and to building safer schools, barangays, and communities.
